The Wooksta

A simple cut and shut.  Pirated resin FR nose fitted to the old Frog/Novo Meteor F4, with a new resin cockpit fitted and an Aeroclub u/c.

There was a prototype FR5 but it broke up in the air.

Another beauty ! Looks great in that colour with the long nose. I almost grabbed the Airfix meteor last week.....one of the few planes remaining that I haven't built.

There is an article in one of the Air-Britain Aeromilitaria quarterlies from a few years ago which has photos of it, but the pics show it was a true PR5 not an FR5.  Tony Buttler found the photos along with some of the PR3 while helping sort out a recently deceased Air-Britain member's vast aviation library, apparently the member was in the process of putting together the 'ultimate' book on the Meteor, and I believe Tony will now complete the book and get it published.

The PR5 looks almost exactly like your PR4 Lee --

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I'll have to find the magazine because the PR3's had different nose camera window apertures than what became standard.  The closest I can describe them is they were like the Lockheed F-5e recon' windows

I just used the same resin nose for all of them - I'd cloned the CMR FR9 nose.

Bit of a coincidence but in the latest Aeromilitaria issue that arrived yesterday, there's a crash investigation report of the PR.5 published.  It seems Phil Butler came across it while he was at the National Archives looking for something else.  It has revealed a few information errors that are currently published about the aircraft in other publications.  Firstly, the report refers to it as a PR.V, serial VT347.  It then describes the aircraft as having long nacelles and 'long' outer wings (Mk.III wings) where many have said it had Mk.IV wings and also not only did it have the recce' nose that is familiar on PR.9 & 10's, it was also equipped with camera bays in the lower rear fuselage (something else not known again until now).  It then reveals that the aircraft broke up in flight while on it's 'third' flight and actually had 1hr 3mins of flight time at the time of it's crash, not on it's maiden flight as many publications have it.  Phil does say the report is an 'intrim' report and now he's going to look for the final report so there's more to be revealed once he does find it.
