I was wondering if Lockheed was ordered to rather than build a twin-man, monoplane fighter with a turret based on the Lockheed Altair; they were instead ordered to build a SINGLE-man monoplane fighter based on a Lockheed Altair, scaled down as necessary.

What kind of performance could have been yielded?
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

Detroit-Lockheed weren't ordered to build anything. The aircraft that became known
as the YP-24, it also received the Wright Field designation XP-900, was designed and built
as a private venture. It did not have a turret.

Yeah, I did a check it was based on the Altair transport.  Still didn't the USAAC have any say in it's design?

I apologize about that -- I meant the gunner.

Regardless, how much of an improvement would have been achieved if the USAAC had requested it be reduced in size so as to include just one crew member with the associated weight reductions and the same engine?
