I was looking at getting a Testors F-19 kit sometime soon and was wondering how this paint scheme sounds:

Top - Very dark blue like the shade on the Mitsubishi F-2
Underside - A very light blue such as the color on the sides of WWII Navy 3 tone cammo, PRU blue, or something else like a home brew.

My plan is a what if Lockheed-Kawasaki F-19J with stores from one of Hasegawa's Robotech armament kits would do very nicely as an alterenitive universe what if. I just need some suggestions for the paints I should use. My only criteria is that they be solvent based as I use an air brush and make the paint "hot" with lacquer thinner, so anything that can be thinned out with that is fine. Personally I think the Hinomaru's will really stand out with a dark topside myself. I just want to run this by others that are as sane as myself.

I did something similar with a modified VF-1 - AFAIK, the "real" colors are FS35164 (Intermediate Blue) and FS15042 (Sea Blue). Since impression counts, I went for something brighter and settled on Humbrol 109 (WWI Blue, a very deep tone) for the lighter blue and Humbrol 104 (Oxford Blue, very dark and with a violet hue) for the dark tone. That's what came out:

Yeah, that's exactly what I had in my mind. I'm not sure about the lighter blue coming up around the leading and trailing edges though, mostly because I'm lazy and hate to mess around with a freehand airbrush job. Anyway, thanks for the color names.
