Don't get mad, get even: never wind up the innocent or the puzzled, but once they've been offensive, they're fair game. Explain to them with a straight face that's it's a real aircraft, give them the full backstory (and remember, the PR.19 one is good and stands up to quite a bit of scrutiny) and let them wander off scratching their heads. Any arguments: "I should know mate I used to bloody fly them..."

The oposite to that is when an old guy tells you that he flew your creation ?? Happened to Martin at a show. I think it was his Sea Lysander with folded wings. It was quite high up and this nice old guy (I'm a young 61 ) was telling us how he'd flown them. We both just smiled and thanked him nicely for his comments. We can only assume he thought it was a Swordfish ? Still no harm dome and whatever, it had obviously brought him back some fond memories.

Had a similar thing to that with motorbikes.

A Matchless G80 is an old classic bike from the 1950s. However, when Les Harris knew he was going to lose the rights to build Triumph Bonnevilles (because John Bloor's modern Triumph factory was about to open), he came up with a modern "Matchless G80" which looked like a generic old British bike, but actually had a Rotax engine and various Laverda cycle parts on a British-made frame. It didn't look much like an original G80, however.

I had one of these Harris G80s. On the first day I went out on it, I stopped for petrol and an old bloke came up to me and started telling how he used to ride one "just like that" in the war.

"Really?" I said, "Well you must have been fighting for the other side then."

"What?!! Why !?" he spluttered.

"Well," I replied, "if it was 'just like this one' then it had an Austrian engine and an Italian fuel tank...."  ;D

 ;D ;D

My brother has one of those '50s G80s IIRC. That's the one that has the rear dampers that can be adjusted through an arc, isn't it? Fires once every lampost, and that's at 80 mph!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

No I don't think so. The original G80 was rigid frame, then they went to a swingarm frame with enclosed, dead vertical dampers nicknamed "jampots".

Doesn't matter what you build - whif or otherwise - it's all rather rude slagging off someone else's work. If you like it, praise it.  If you don't then don't speak.  :-X

Absolutely. If you know the person well enough then constructive criticism is fine as long as it is constructive. To many people don't seem to understand what that word actually means.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
