THE best sci-fi fighter   . Does anyone know, though, what the fourth intake on the nose is for. Looks koooool but does it have a specific function.

Weaver

According to this site, it's not an intake, but a "proton torpedo" launcher, with sensors around it:

Note that the this is the original series Viper, no the re-imagined one.

Many thanks. The sensors make sense, almost as if it is sniffing space. I liked the new series but not the new Vipers....if it ain't broke .

I certainly liked the way Starbuck morphed. Like my Uncle who one day became my Aunt .

Weaver

Ironically, one of the few people who was really down on the new series was Dirk Benedict: he hated the "darker and grittier" vibe of it because he thought BSG should be "good clean lightweight family fun" (like the A-team, basically....)

Katee Sackhoff went right through the casting process and accepted the role having never actually seen the original series and didn't know that Starbuck used to be a man until she watched an old video  ;D

I liked that mucho; thanks . My Mum used to think Dirk seriously dishy. As a film I loved it, never saw the series as I was living abroad. One up on Star Wars I thought as I never liked then, as I still do not like now, that Jedi/Force BS . Honest to God not looking forward to the next movies. "Star Wars - Quest for Bognor Regis".

Green Dragon

The original Viper kit had a spring launched torpedo included in the nose that was removed in later issues because of health and safety Nazis.
Cylon Raider had two.
The new Viper looks an old one melted!

On the bench.

1/72nd Quad Tilt Rotor, 1/144th V/STOL E2 Hawkeye (stalled)

Weaver

I quite like the new Mk.2, but I totally agree about the new Mk.7.

Yuck. As if there isn't enough schmaltzy Disney-fied dreck on telly anyway. Silly man.

Never been terribly keen on the Vipers, to be honest - old or new. Much prefer the X-wing. ;D

Doesn't have to be realistic, necessarily, but fully agree on all the others.

Indeed, although it's now a recognised TV Trope, which means it's perilously close to becoming a cliche:

I liked the Darker & Grittier look of the new BSG, but wished they had kept to the original plot with the Cylons as an Alien Race and avoided all that chip off the block and time loop crap. I especially hated the way they mirrored Earth politics or rather US politics and the issues of the day  :banghead:, they should have left that for a current affairs drama if thats what the writers wanted to play with and kept with the original Sci-fi concept of a rag tag bunch of humans fleeing acoss space to escape an alien menance in search of a long lost colony.

Exactly the way I felt about the new series as well. I was also disappointed to see the use of current day clothing as well. The only thing that was remotely decent were the flight suits
