Sorry, not a what-if, been working on some commissions for a family friend to boost my pocket money. I happened to mention to him that a Seafire 45 was possible and he duly ordered it. Not as easy as it sounds. Most of the work centres around the cockpit. The sill behind the sliding hood has to be raised, an access door has to be rescribed and a sliver of plastic rod installed to represent the hinge. A standard cockpit from the spares box, no easy task as the fuselage seems slimmer than previous spitfire releases. Camera ports and panels on both sides filled and sanded with new panels rescribed. The didgeridoo under the port exhaust removed, filled and sanded. Wings, u/c, radiators and stinger hook from a spares box spit 22. The wings do not want to fit so quite a lot of cutting, sanding, fitting etc required here. You also have to fill the gap at the rear of the wing section to fuselage joint underneath (on the PRXIX this is extended for the camera ports....more filling, sanding etc. Think I'll wait for Airfix to issue their own next time (hint, hint ).
