Dragon actually do both the Desert SAS jeep and the NWE Commando Jeep in 1/72nd which should fit the bill for what you want

You could go for one of the other irregular groups.  Vladimir Peniakov for instance. The book   "Popskis Private Army" might repay perusal.   I think my younger son has "annexed" my copy........

The newer Airfix one (not the one with the Buffalo) and the Heller one are the same kit and the best in 72nd.  I have heard the Dragon ones are under scale, closer to 76th and have some other issues.  I have built the Academy one and it is awfully inaccurate.  The Hasagawa also has issues but not too bad.

Peniakov's book has always made me ask exactly what they did which was militarily useful.  It reads more like a "Boys' Own Adventure" rather than an account of serious military operations.  It just leaves me scratching my head every time I read it (sure, it's enjoyable but I still can't quite figure out what they did which justified their existence).   There was also the LRDG, whom were a big jeep user.

I have build most of the 1/72 jeeps kits
best that I have build is the

Airfix/Heller jeep, that is the newer 1, comes with a trailer, molded on tools and a disk on the grill, descend wheels, cheapest kit of the lot
older Airfix with the Buffalo is very small and crude

Hasegawa is crude not worth it

Academy better then Hasegawa but still not worth it, got plenty of them as there Kubelwagon is pretty good and it goes in the same box 

S-model newest kit of the lot, 2 in a box is pretty good maybe even better then the Airfix/Heller jeep, comes with a trailer of 37mm gun depending on the box you get

Dragon couple of version ETO SAS jeep, armored with bazookas, both 2 in a box or a plain 1 with a Sherman, overall not bad molding but under scale and far more expensive then the other and not worth the price 

Italeri fast build 2 in a box, I have not seen this 1 from the pictures decent kit
