I'm somewhat surprised to see no dedicated thread about the P-3 Orion.

What I'm looking for is info about the P-3 AEW.   Does anybody know of an online source about it.  In particular, IIRC the AEW system was from the E-2 Hawkeye, including the Radome.  Is that correct?

That's what I remember too. Didn't the USCG have some of them at one time? Or maybe the DEA?

The AEW version is covered in Schiffers "The Age of Orion: The Lockheed P-3 Story" by David Reade. Its the Hawkeye 24 ft Radome with the APS-138 radar but is monuted on a tall structure than the Hawkeye giving it better coverage.

US Customs uses them, now known as CBP, customs and border protection.   Yes same dome as the E-2.

Yes, thats the one I've had my eye on.  Thanks all, I suspected I was right about it using the E-2 systems.

I've got a similar idea Philp, only I'm going the whole hog and converting my P-3 into an Electra using the Contrails Models conversion.  Then I'll do it like this one I saw at the Airdrie (Calgary) Airshow last year.

Just bought one and it had free postage in the USA and Canada too.

An early whiff idea was to use the Revell Br1150 Atlantic/Atlantique instead of the P-3. A fellow whiffer did a line drawing with 2 and 4 engines. There is someone on eBay that sells the resin rotodome and stand in 1/72 & 1/144 scale from the USA.

I've started to add the wings from an Airfix BAe Nimrod kit onto a Revell P-3C Orion. I used the Orion engines on a Acadamey KC-97.Which will have the E-2 rotodome and stand fitted. Refueling boom added to an Airfix Super Constellation with underwing hose & drogue from a C-130 kit.
