One for the diary.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum has a Reserve Collection of over 30 aircraft (more than some museums!) including the swept-wing Supermarine 510 and several Westland helicopters.

I am told it will be open on Thursday 23rd October 2014.
It only opens to the public once each year and they put it bang in the middle of half-term. :banghead:

It would be great to see these aircraft in the unrestored condition. It would make everyone realize the work involved.
I had the pleasure of walking through the on going restoration hanger at Duxford. Awesome!

Cheers for that Nick. One for the diary and the West Country floods may have gone by then
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Would be nice to see a Wasp in the main museum instead of half a dozen Wessex...

That's a great gig. I managed to beg a poke up through the access hatch to look inside the cockpit of the ongoing saga that is the Beaufighter. Wish they would get her flying.

Surprised that Wasp XS527 is kept in the shaddows, first production bird, Falklands history, and day-glo markings- what's not to like?!

The FAAM is a must on my list (I live in the States), so when I take Mrs. Sandiego for our UK trip, will have to arrange one of those "coincidence" side tours: "Oh look, I had no idea they had a Aviation museum out here in the countryside...let's take a quick, and we can look at the antique shop afterwords...."  ;D

She is a good sport, but sadly a dusty Wasp and a Chinook look the same to her.

Best benefit of being in the USAF reserves was training tours to Europe. Twice to RAF Mildenhall. Managed to take side trips over the weekends.
The first time I was at Duxford I saw a Spitfire giving a flying demo. It was a gusty wind that day and the pilot tried to land and spanked the left main gear down hard. He went around a couple of times and managed to land safely but the aircraft was leaning to the left as it sat on the ground. It appeared something was broken. I'm sure it went back to the same hanger for repairs.

That's in the diary now. YOu know, I've been past that place dozens of times, but never had the chance to go in there.

Looking at my work rota for the year I might just have this day off. It'd mean a long drive there and back in one day but it'd be worth it as I haven't been to Yeovilton for 10 years. All depends on having the same rota or even the same job in October!
There's also the need to save for SMW spending money, thankfully the accomodation is already booked and paid for
