This build is based on the proposition that the RFC did not become the RAF in 1918 and that the paint and markings regulations in effect in 1918 did not change. This early Mk.I belongs to Number 23 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps, based at North Weald, Essex, in September 1939.

Construction is strictly OOB. A few parts were fiddly, but everything fit almost perfectly. I used NO putty and used CA and white canopy glue to fill tiny gaps.

The decals are kit decal fragments from a number of different WW1 kits, via the spares-box. The codes are from a real-world SE.5, but those rules don't apply here.

The paint is all hand-brushed freehand. I painted the doped fabric areas with Xtracolor RFC PC.10 Khaki over RFC Clear Doped Linen. The metal areas are painted Testors square-bottle Aluminum. The details are painted per the kit instructions.

The early Hurricane is , in my opinion, the pick of the litter from among the Airfix new-tool releases. I am very pleased with my 23 Squadron machine. Adios, Larry.

This is lovely! Can't tell you why, but I love the overall look of this Hurricane.

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Love it!   I've been planning a Whif Hurricane based on WW2 not happening for a while, but this takes it one stage further.

Wonderfully done! I must get my no-WW2 Hurricane up on this site, there's quite a few popping up now. We could have our own little section of the stand at shows!

This well-executed RFC Hurricane makes me ponder------it was the RNAS who ordered the "proper bloody paralyser  to bomb Berlin".  How far would their independent strateigic bomber force have developed by 1939? And would carrier aircraft have  fared better under RNAS supervision?

Really, really nice

Echo your opinion of the new Airfix kit, it's a lovely one. Got 5 now and a few more ideas
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Wonderful job, love the concept, will be replicating it in MS paint, but, are you going to dull coat it? It seems a bit glossy due to the photos.

All of my 1/72 models are gloss finished.

I don't flat-coat my models for several reasons:
1)I have over 1300 built models, many of which were built before good flat paints were in common use.
2)flat paints cause a lot of problems with silvering, which is a problem because....
3)I don't own an airbrush, I paint all of my canopy frames freehand by brush. and masking canopies to keep the Flat off the glass is way too much hassle.
4)I have a dedicated room for my models and a filter system for my heating/air conditioning. However dudt is dust. Gloss model are a whole lot easier to keep clean.

I am different than many modelers in my approach. If the pundits, rivet counters, and experten don't like my approach to the hobby that is their opinion.

The cool thing about a "What-if?" forum is that there are no hard and fast rules for anything.

Thanks for the kind words, but I just wanted to answer your question. Sorry if I got long-winded in the process.

Adios, Larry.
