Please pardon my extreme ignorance, but I cannot recall how to post photos with a message.  I have some pretty good photos of what-ifs on my external hard drive, but cannot find the right button on the page that will allow me to pull a photo and put in in the message.

You can't upload a picture directly to the forum - you need to use either a third-party host (flickr, photobucket, imgur, etc), or your own web space.

Thanks, looks like I won't be uploading any time soon.  Those all sound pretty complicated.

It's really simple. You just upload the pic to the hosting site, and then copy and paste the provided link into your post. :)

This video demonstrates it quite nicely (this is for Flickr): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP9JDP9BNms

Thanks, I will check it out.  I know nothing of Photobucket, but will see what it has to offer.

Photobucket works ok and is reasonably intuitive.
Random pic.

Honestly if I can use it anyone can
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I seem to have missed something. When did we change ?  When I joined, I uploaded my picture directly from my smartphone.  Why did this change ?  Pardon my ignorance of such things but I don't see a need to change this.

It changed a couple of years ago. Basically, it's a bandwidth issue. Images take up a lot of it, and that costs money. As this is a free forum, it had to change.

Third-party hosting is easy and painless - it isn't a problem for most people, though IIRC a few got very upset about it at the time for some reason.

Captain Canada

You can do it !

Photos add so much to a discussion or build that it's definately worth while to teach yourself how...and it's really quite easy.

My new phone has something called " Dropbox "  installed. Does anyone know anything about it ?  It was introduced as a place to keep photos and information you didn't want lost.  Now it seems to only be another photo hosting site.  I guess if anyone tells it works and I can figure out how I will use it.

Ed S

"Dropbox" is an online file storage site (cloud storage). Once you've set up your account, you can store any files you like there. You can also configure your other devices to access it. It allows you to store files without filling up your phone's limited memory. Plus the ability to access it anywhere.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Father Ennis

Thanks for explaining that to me.  Why couldn't they just say that.  Well, guess I will look into it.

My Flight Simulator Group uses Dropbox quite a bit and we find it very useful. We can file new textures for our aircraft, which are sometimes quite large files, so that everyone can use them, and we can distribute flight plans and know that everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.

One good thing about it is that it flags up on your device, be it PC or phone, when your Dropbox folder has been updated. That means you don't have to keep grovelling in there to see if anything has changed.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)
