Captain Canada

I still won't believe it until I see it for myself. And since I love the aeroplane, maybe I won't believe it until I see each one twice.

Hang in there Cap'n, you're going to LOVE it! That fabric winged Hurricane is a real honey of a kit, maybe Airfix's best to date.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

I agree with you Kit. I can honestly say that the new Hurricane is the best Airfix kit I've built to date. When they do the metal wing version lets just hope it keeps the standard up

For sure the Lightning F2A is a BRILLIANT kit, but I think the early Hurricane is a veritable masterpiece. Not sure about any of the Spitfires, the only modern one I have is the PR19, naturally, and that's great, but not a patch on the Hurri.

My A01010 cheaper Hurrican kit arrived today, so I can compare the two kits directly.

The first and most obvious 'cheapness' is that the A01010 kit has an end-opening box with all the colour and decal information printed on the back. No separate colour printed sheet inside on this one.

The second is the absence of the dreaded Sprue E with the two bladed prop etc. It comes with the same clear sprue, so you get both armoured and non-armoured windscreens.

While the colour info on the back of the box would have you believe that the only 85 Sqdn. aircraft you can build is VY-G you actually get a second aircraft code letter so you can make VY-C as well. What you DON'T get is any sign of a serial number, either under the wings or on the tail cone. Very odd.

They made up for that on my kit by giving me TWO complete decal sheets however.  ;D

Quite a few Hurricanes in France at this time didn't have serial numbers or more probably had had them painted out. There is a profile of an 85 Sqd aircraft in France in the Hurricane Combat Colours (VY-H) and that carries no serial. Not sure exactly when the under wing serials were discontinued but it was late 1938/early 39 ? Others will no better I'm sure

Yeah, IIRC this was a frequent occurrence and happened just before war broke out.  I did a Spitfire like this once, the picture I had of it had a clear band where the serial had been painted out.  I simulated it by adding a drop of a different colour to the base paint to give a slight colour difference and hand painted it to look like it been done quickly.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
