hi all

I was looking at my old KC-30 WIF and decided that it was OK, but not very good and I could do better. I have seena few really awesome DC-10's online lately so I decided to convert this from a KC-30 into a civilian DC-10.

So, off came the refuelling boom and out came the Milliput and sandpaper. I bought some Air New Zealand 787 decals and resized them to fit. Because this was always going to be a WIF, I thought I may as well get a little more creative with it, so I scratched up some wing-lets and sanded them to shape. Everything got stripped back and repainted. I did not have any door decals for the DC-10 other than my Authentic Airliner ones, but I'm saving those for the next DC-10 kit I make. So, I used the window decals from the Old Models ANZ DC-10 set I have. The only thing wrong with these OM decals is the front wind screen - it is completely the wrong shape. But as they are the only ones I  have, they'll have to make do. I also had to use the 787 door decals, which are not right I know, but they're better than nothing

Enough talking, time for pics.

Here's what it looked like before I started:

And now:

It was a fun little side-project and one I'm glad I did. Yeah, there are obvious issues with it, but They aren't too distracting - unless your the kind to get hung up on that kind of thing :)

Well, that's it folks. Thanks for looking

It looked great in the camo but also looks very good in civil livery, excellent finish!

Beat me to it. Excellent, stand out civil livery
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Wow ! Great job on both looks ! Love the original camo. The second livery is a knockout as well. I like the way the windscreen decals look, very modern like the 787 !

thanks guys

I really need to replace the windscreen decals - to me, they look terrible. So much so that I will order another set of windows from AA for it.

I'm with you there. Overall it looks great, except for that windscreen, it really doesn't fit the DC10 nose at all.

Have you fitted winglets to it from another source?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Thanks mate
I have been gifted some proper DC10 windscreen decals from a fellow on another forum, so they'll go on once they arrive.
No, I made the winglets out of some scrap plastic sheets and grafted them on.
