Yes, I was thinking it looked like it had seen the paint shop recently. It looks a little too clean and shiny for just a bath.

It's point of origin is unusual too, just how often do you expect to see a plane with "Turkmenistan" markings on it?

What's the TD for ? I've got that on my car 'Turbo Diesel' can't believe it's the same. Wonder if they do a GTi version.....    :banghead:

TD is the abbreviation for "Transport Dahl'ny", which is the Russian term meaning "Long-range Transport"

If you've ever seen an Il-76 fly you'll know that it MUST be a diesel, they smoke just like an early 707.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

They must have done something to correct that as the one I photographed on Friday was smokeless all the way. Noisy as hell, but smokeless.

Now I think about it they've changed the engines on the 76s at least once. Perhaps only the early ones were smokers.

I can recall seeing the singular DAS Air Cargo 707 leaving Gatwick in its usual 1100 hrs slot heading west on a very clear day in the 90s. From the old Observation Deck, now sadly useless, you could see the smoke trail for MILES, long after the aircraft itself was out of sight!  :o
