The Space Battleship Yamato from the anime of the same name.

This is the 1/1000 Bandai kit built from the box (apart from the ariels - I broke off the parts that were there) and weathered with washes and filters.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Thanks guys.
I've watched the live action Space Battleship Yamato movie but it's a bit of a blank for some reason.  Maybe because it was a dubbed version - subtitles force one to concentrate so much more.  I love the concept of a Space Battleship though and I have the Anime series (subtitled) on my computer to watch when I get a chance.

I watched the live action Yamato (sub'd) on Youtube four years ago, while on state orders for Hurricane Irene (bust).  They screwed up with a lot of the canon, and destroyed the ship.

The new Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is one of the best Sci-Fi anime series released in recent years.

They fixed a lot of the plot and technical in consistencies and It far and away surpasses the original which looks dated in comparison. The enemy Gamilas are fleshed out a lot more and are more than your stock evil guys.

Highly recommended.

Also Bandai has a butt load of kits from the new series.

Captain Canada

The whole idea is just crazy to me. But super cool ! Then again, I have to get over the fact that they are in space, and not in the earth's atmosphere.....

All that aside, great job ! They are super cool looking machines. Love all the little turrets and fighters. Great stuff !

I think the 1299 version is the one I have waiting to be watched.
I'll put it next in the queue to watch while exercising (it'll make a change from Dexter).
I find myself wondering why they need wings and carrier decks in zero gravity and why all space craft exhibit planar thinking (there is no up and down in space).  But then I tell myself it's an anime and that doesn't matter.

Most of the fighters can operate inside an atmosphere as well as in space and as for the space carriers etc I assume that the local artificial gravity field of the ship applies to the flight deck as well as the crew areas.

Compared to Gundam Unicorn which I just finished watching, 2199 is for anime as scientifically accurate as 2001 ;D
