The Argentina President, has been in China and agreed a deal for new 'Patrol Ships' aka Frigates and started a Fighter joint working Party looking at either the JF-17 or the J-10.

Will the Chinese sell jets to a nation that's as good as bankrupt though? Is there enough beef in Argentina to exchange for what they need to rebuild their forces after 30+ years of neglect?

They've already tried and failed to purchase Mirage F1, Kfir, Grippen and Fencers in the last few years.

I think China is very interested in doing more in South America.  They have been pumping money into Venezuela and other places.  This article indicates $250bn over the next decade.http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jan/08/china-venezuela-20bn-loans-financing-nicolas-maduro-beijing

There were a few reports doing the rounds last year that FMA was in talks with CAC about building the FC/JF-17 in Argentina. Pulqui IV any one?..(The Pulqui III would likely have been what became the HAL Murat.)

I was thinking that the J-10 would be way outside of the price range for the current Argentine economy.  But Wikipedea has the JF-17 priced between $15 & $25 million U.S. (Dependant on version) and the J-10 at $27.84 Million U.S. per airframe.  So maybe just maybe they might be able to afford a few J-10's.

I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Looking at China's recent history of overseas investment it seems pretty sure that China is after mining and mineral rights, possibly from shares in state-owned companies.

I think that Argentina is looking to China for an economic recovery from which they can get some new military equipment.

In Africa and other places China has invested Billions of dollars in new roads and railways in exchange for rights to mine or drill in those countries.
Nigeria - $12Bn for a new railway http://www.cnbc.com/id/102204779
East Africa (Congo, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya - $4Bn for a railway to cut costs of transporting goods http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-27368877
Sierra Leone - New railway and port for the Chinese mines worth $2Bn  http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/8e2c6de6-8e54-11df-964e-00144feab49a.html#axzz3REgwKMfF
West Africa  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_Railway_Seventh_Group
Mexico - High-speed railway http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-29948331
Venezuela - Lots of money going in for something, probably oil. Takeover bid? http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/6f6436a2-a0ae-11e4-8ad8-00144feab7de.html#axzz3REgwKMfF

Yeap China is after resorces to keep its economy going and is quite interested in investing in non-western countries to expand its influence to secure its markets. Argentina has been left high and dry by the US and western europe due to its defaulting on loan repayments, so deals with China are seen as a way out of the economic cess pit before the people look to lynch the government.

Hmmmmm, wonder if Chinese eyes are turning to Greece?
Not much in the way of resources but they could do with a bail out.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
