An excellent piece.

The R100 is my fave airship, helped by having a FROG model of it. I WISH I'd been around to see it fly.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Coincidentally I was looking at one of the Revell 1/720 Zeppelins in a model shop earlier in the week.
They are a lot smaller than I thought - too small for my devious whiffing plans.

I did a "project" on the R100 when I was at school.  I always thought it was unfair it was scrapped because the R101 crashed.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

My thoughts exactly.

I went to Howden once and just north of the town there's a level crossing with a pub right alongside called 'The Barnes Wallis' and its full of pics and stuff about him and the R100. Just north of there is a golf course that's on the site of that huge hangar they used to build it, but all that's left now is a MASSIVE lump of concrete with the world's biggest eyebolt stuck in the top. It's one of the mooring blocks they used for the R100 and it's bigger than my house!  :o :o

The old 1/520 AMT Hindenburg has been re-popped by Round2, it's 18" long and comes with a little, supposedly in scale,
DC-3, which features a too wide center section which gives it an odd look.

I picked up two of the re-released kit and it's just as I remember from when I built it back in the mid-70s.   ;) ;D

Any comments otherwise on the quality of the re-released 1/520 kit?  I almost picked one up the other day.  Imagine it is quite basic.  engine pods and props OK?  Thick plastic for the hull?  I too have devious WHIF ideas....

Very basic, hull halves about 1/16" thick covered in moulded 'fabric' effect, ventral and dorsal fins moulded to hull halves,
horizontal fins separate (2 pieces each), engine cars very simple (2 pieces each), struts and props thick/overscale,
separate one piece control gondola. All window detail moulded on, no clear parts.

Proportions look good.

They've created an R-100 History Trail in Howden.  Not been to see it myself, but I keeping hearing about it on the local radio.  I think it consists of a line of plaques to give you an idea of the length of the R-100.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Thank you very much for the "review"- about what I expected from a dated kit, especially the over scale props and struts.  Easy enough to scratch up....  Think a good addition to the stash.
