At Telford I got some Deluxe Materials (of PPP fame) Brush Magic. I had a chance to test it yesterday on an old Italeri brush who's brush head was solid for at least 2/3rds of its length. It had been retired to the dry brushing/odd jobs mug. Well I poured a little Brush Magic into an old jar lid and started to swirl it around in the liquid. To be honest I wasn't expecting much as the brush was way gone. To my delight and surprise the BM started work immediately and after about 5 mins of swirling and working the brush on the lid it came up as clean as a whistle. Superb

It is very strong stuff and I could see it doing damage if brushes are left in it to long ? However the instructions are very clear about what you should and should not do. So thoroughly recommended provided you read the warnings on the bottle

Wow, that sounds like a breakthrough. Could save a fortune having in not to buy new brushes.

I've found that repeated dips in EMA Plasticweld tend to have similar effects.

Right I've been gradually working my way through my older brushes cleaning them up using Brush Magic. One or two required an over night soak (they could have been used as cold chisels before hand  :banghead:) and all have come out as good as new or there abouts. The paint has gone from a couple of the handles as well mind you

Saved myself a small fortune in brushes. I shall get another bottle at the next show I attend

thank-you for the heads up chris.

like wooksta I have found that acrylic varnish can be stripped off old brushes by dipping in revel's painta-clean stuff but it strips the varnish off the brush
handle. :banghead:

Honestly, never had this problem. After a bout of painting I give each brush used a thorough clean out with Fairy liquid...works for both white spirit cleaned enamels and water cleaned acrylics. Of course, I have to run the gamut of comments from SWMBO about the cost of Fairy ;D.
