How wide is the flight deck of HMS Invincible?

esp. at the ski jump, and along the island.
I'm working on my SCADS carrier, trying to decide on a layout. Need to divide the ship's width between flight deck and hangar.
So far, I've got a flight deck longer than HMS Invincible ever had  ;D

There are some good photos here that should allow you to calculate it based on the known dimensions of Harriers and Sea Kings:

Take-off area is 550ft x 40ft or 42ft (sources differ) so that gives you the width of the ski-jump.

Beam = 118.1ft.

Taking my 1/700 scale up against a 1/700 scale Invincible flight deck I come up with the following.

flat deck 104' wide for most of the ship.  Taper a bits at the stern to about 91 feet.

72 feet of clearance between the island and port side of flight deck

flight deck from stern to tip of ramp, 560 feet long (which jives with online sources)

jump 40' feet wide, leaving a flight deck 64 feet wide behind the forward seacat launcher.

jump starts curving up 92 feet from the tip of the ramp.

Happy to run any other measurements for you

Thanks guys, that gives me something to base my design on.

Just as an aside, you know when people criticise you for using Wikipedia or some other online resource because "you can't trust what you read on the internet"? Well those figures I quoted of 40 feet and 42 feet for the width of the ski-jump came from two perfectly "respectable" printed reference books on my shelf - so much for editors!  :rolleyes:

I think you're misinterpreting what they said.  40+ft wide is about right, for the ski-jump...
