I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Supacat produced a family of vehicles based on the HMT400 Jackal and HMT600 Coyote, along with a further eight wheeled version known as the HMT800.  These were cancelled by the MOD:

GS body on a HMT400 chassis

GS Body on a HMT600

Comms body on a HMT600

LIMAWS (R) rocket launcher on a HMT600

LIMAWS (G) HMT800 Portee for the M777 howitzer

A couple of the HMT600s have been converted for use on the Bloodhound SSC project:

Yeah!  When I first saw a pic of it, it was a near head on image and I thought it was a proper SPG.  Still, quite impressive.

A very British solution, making the gun "en portee".  Personally, I would have preferred a weapon like the Caesar SPG, mounted on the back and like you, the first time I saw a picture of one, I thought that it was one as well.   Making it "en portee" or towed, makes the truck available as a truck, able to carry spare ammunition, etc. and redeployable to other tasks but it limits the ability of the truck to actually fire the weapon.   Interesting how light-weight they've managed to make the 155mm as well.  The wheels appear rather flimsy to me.

'en portee' does not mean towed it means carried:banghead:

Portagiers did not 'tow' their canoes, they carried them.
Feckin' Aussies, sometimes you embarrass the rest of the Commonwealth, or at least we Canucks.  ;D

I am well aware of the "en portee" means, Jon.  If you had watched the video, you'd have seen the Jackal pick up the gun and carry it on its load tray, "en portee".    :banghead:

It had to unload it to set the gun up and fire it.  It also towed the gun, which allowed it to carry more ammunition on the load tray.

point to note never mind carrying ammo there is all the associated kit you need to keep a gun in the field, nets, poles, tools, spares then you have the kit you need to sustain the crew their personal kit rations water etc it all adds up. slightly the coyote could be a good light gun tractor. the bulk of the ammo will be on Trucks.
