I was looking for the 1/25 'Open Road Pick Up with Racers Wedge' on a well known auction site when I came across the 1/25 Deora Dodge show car, with camper FS. Orange body work and all black camper/dormobile.
Further research reveals the Vantasy with a cream colour camper in the back.
The Deora is based on a 1965 Dodge A100 pick up truck and customized by Mike and Larry Alexander, the designed by Harry Bentley Bradley. With  a 170ci (2.8L) Slant 6 engine.
Matchbox did the diecast HotWheels toy, but I can remember seeing a Dinky version in the guise of a fire truck and trailer, green glass windows and a turntable ladder.

My first thought was a truck and trailer using the Italeri 1/24 truck accessories kits 720 set and 3854.
A tow truck version could be built or
Racing team such as the " Jammy Dodgers" with a car transporter rig.
Fire truck and tender
A dormobile using the Revell VW T3 Caravelle camper, or plasticard demountable camper using the kit and scratchbuilding interior fittings.
I'm sure a tracked version would work as well either in Ambulance mode or military missile carrier (Acid launcher).
Surf up beach buggy
Or fit a bigger engine in the back. The RR Merlin would fit or a jet or two.
Got that amphibious feel to it.

I'm sure that the Whiffers will have their own ideas.

Ford also had their own version back in 1973 with the Explorer SUV  concept. The shape is roughly the same but with a conventional cab and two side doors and also came as a camper van.

I always thought the camper version would make a neat futuristic NASA astronaut transfer van, complete with big meatball logos on the side, for shuttling a crew to a reusable launch vehicle.

Straker's personal SHADO mobile.  I like the NASA crew bus idea.

On a similar line I picked up the Round2/MPC Daytona Transport Truck at Huddersfield.  A friend bought one from there two years previous and I spent that time fantasising over what I could do with his model!  While he was eyeing up the Deora this year (and passed on it, due to price), I succumbed to temptation and grabbed the Daytona.  Fantastic model and all sorts of possibilities like the Deora.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Been trying to get that model myself, thanks for the ideas.

The Daytona is easier to get here, Hannant's have it, and other online suppliers too.  It's a bit on the expensive side at £25.  That was part of the reason I didn't pick it up sooner, but in the end I thought, s*d it!

The Deora is much harder to get hold of, the only supplier I've seen stock it is the one that attends the Hudderfiesld show with all the American car kits (can't think of his name).  When my friend passed on it, I looked at getting it for his birthday, but I could only get it from the US.  It's available at a reasonable price, but the shipping is often more than the kit.

There's this one on ebay at the mo from the US that's approx. £8.00 'Buy-it-now' and they estimate £10 P&P. That doesn't sound so bad maybe?

There seems to be quite a few on there, but some at OUTRAGEOUS prices and P&Ps too.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

That's not a bad price, IIRC the guy at Huddersfield was asking £18.

Kit,

sadly the link seems to offer the empty box only.

Hell's bells, how did I miss that?  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So sorry.

What's the business about empty boxes anyway? I just don't get it.

But £8 along with detail bits is EXCELLENT!
