Madness times three oir how to bite off more than you can chew for a GB

I normally do my kit builds in three's. I don't know why probably due to impatience waiting for glue or pain to dry, move on to the next one etc.

With the one week group build I just did the one and while it was a bit hurried, it turned out ok. With this GB spread over a lot more time I'm back to thinking of doing multiple kits so why not three builds for the GB.

Now I don't have anything Civil that I could militarise out of 300 on the pending list so it's going to have to be military to Civil. I have plenty of decal options having 1/72, 1/100 and a few 1/144 airline decals but that just makes the choices more difficult. They may get used in a best fit scenario so my suggestions below may change.

Option One :

I have an old Revell 'Memphis Belle' B-17 Fortress kit which I was going to give to one of the grandkids as it's not really my cup of tea. I also have the Rareplanes Boeing B-17D conversion

Now the good thing about this vacuform is it's solid.... it has not had the windows or any canopies opened up... ok so I'm cheating not so much to PSR. Also the 17D had no tail gun so one less thing to worry about. I'm thinking a cargo transport for this build as I have some Flying Tigers decals which will fit nicely ...

Option Two :

I don't like helicopters much. Not for any sane reason other than they are difficult to store with those large floppy rotor blades. So imagine my delight when I was given three (yes three not one three) Frog-ski Westland Lynx's as a gift. One set of instructions (in Russian) between them and more flash than Flash Gordon. Not one of the kits is complete either, one has no transparancies another no arnament/stores. So what to do with them ?

My idea here is to extend the cabin by canabalising one lynx fuselage and grafting on in between the cockpit and cabin of another. I may add a six blade egg whisk as well. Turn it into a PAN AM Air-Taxi  with these decals (1/144th)

Option Three :

I've seen some of the suggestions for using the Grumman Avenger as a fire bomber. I like it but I'm not going down that route. I'm thinking Air Taxi again but not sure what livery to use. I'd love to do it as a DHL cargo aircraft but I cannot find any DHL decals ! That then leaves me with TWA, Continental, Icelandair, Delta or AirUK - not sure which to use. Any way the kit is the Frog Avenger with serious consideration to the top of the fuselage.

Moderators :  Is ok to do all three in one topic or should I do separate threads for each build.

Can I be the first to ask for a time extension and what IS Rule 6 ?

Hi Bungle

OK, in answer to the questions you have posed:

1. Go for the three builds! Go man Go!

2. It's up to you if you want to put them in one thread or in three. One will make it easier to track I guess.

3. I'll check with Mossie. We'll get back to you. (Also thought the rules had mentions of bribes in there too somewhere  ;D)

4. No-one EVER mentions Rule UNMENTIONABLE. Even mentioning that it is unmentionable in itself is unmentionable. Don't ask. Don't ask to ask. Don't even think about asking to think about wondering to think about asking. Ever.

Going to be finished in 2021 BEFORE I start any da*!#d new ones - CF-IDS Wolverine; Douglas Mawson; Bubba Wants a Fishin' Rig; NA F-100

Against the Wall - Maton Dreadnought; Fender Telecaster; Epiphone Les Paul Studio

Oh Rule 5+1 is THAT rule....  sorry  ;D

Three in one it is then plus I have found the Draw Decals do DHL logo decals in 1/100th - not available in the UK but they have resellers online in Germany and the Netherlands.

Would love to see that B-17 ! But all three would be pretty cool as well.

Three builds, quite a task, looking forward to the results!

Mushi and I (Mushi and Mossie, sounds like a comedy double act!) have talked about the extension, we'll leave it until the end of the GB and see if you and anyone else still needs it.  There is a more serious matter to attend to, however....

Can I be the first to ask for a time extension CENSORED?

Comrade, I know not of what you speak.  However, I believe you are due your scheduled 're-education'.  You are invited to attend a month with Comrade Radish in stilettos and a feather duster.  Failure to repsond to the 'invitation' will result in termination, involving said feather duster....
:dalek: :dalek: :dalek:
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I was joking about asking for the extension originally but ....

Sounds rather good can I get an extension for this as well - I'll dig out my basque.

That'd be a pseudo WG30 then.  ;D

I'm sure you'll make a better looking job of it than Westlands did with the 1:1 scale version!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Groan ... didn't know about that and when I googled it... first picture was a PAN AM operated version ! Might have to make it a triple extension.
