I'm an inveterate doodler and for years my lecture notes and then meeting notes featured attack helijets which looked like fat Apaches with a pair of high bypass turbofans on tilt mounts either side of the fuselage.  The ducted tilt rotors in Avatar were close but no cigar.

While not a helijet, when i've finished my FW189 tilt fan I will be using what i've learnt building fans* to have a go at a Yak 9 Zwilling with a lift fan between the 2 fuselages.

*What i've learnt is that a new approach incorporating variable pitch blades mounted on styrene rod into holes in the fan boss might be easier.

Avatar is on the idiots lantern right now and i've just realised that they made the ducted fan tilt rotors sound like helicopters giving them a wokka-wokka-wokka rotor noise.
Wouldn't they make more of a higher frequency whirr given they appear to have 3 bladed fans spinning at a higher speed than a rotor blade would?

Because ever since Vietnam, ALL helicopter-things in Hollywood have to go "wokka-wokka", even if they're not Hueys or even not helicopters. Most modern helicopters already don't sound like Hueys without having ducted fans. It's the same Hollywood BS that has all frogs going "ribbit" because that's the sound that the nearest frogs to Hollywood make.

Yes, I was having similar thoughts the other day. Do all women REALLY scream like that when they see something even slightly off-putting, let alone a dead body?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kookaburras can often be heard in the Hollywood African Jungle.  Particularly in Johhny Weismuller Tarzan movies.

Going back to Avatar, it looks very dated now.  CGI has progressed in leaps and bound since it was made.
