So here is a little thought whif.

Lancaster, re engined with 2 double mambas. Not 2 plus 2 Marlins, just 2 double mambas. I haven't worked out a remotely feasible back story I'm just going for a "wonder if that'd look cool". I've done a quick check and I think that 2 double mambas output slightly more power than 4 merlins and would weigh slightly less. Put them on the inboard pair with perhaps a fuel pod where the outboard engines went.  I'm kind of seeing it in a coastal command style scheme, in my minds eye, as an extra long range/endurance maritime patrol/sar?

Harking back to its Manchester days, would that make it a mancastrian or I guess a mancunian?

Any thoughts?

The Lancaster was used as a test bed with engines of various types quite a lot but I don't think it was used with the Double Mamba so your certainly going to have to make this up as you go as there is nothing to base it on. The Inboard engine positions sound good as the bifurcated exhausts will work to get around the undercarriage bays. Looking forward to the result.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

That would be ManCOOLian lol. I like the idea with some big contra props and the idea makes sense, shutting down one engine each side for cruising.

I've put a double mamba in the nose of a 1/72 Lockheed Neptune, that seems to work, took it from a vacform Gannet kit.

Outer nacelles as either bomb or torpedo nacelles or gun pods for manned pom pom installations?

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

From further thought perhaps the outters could house some sideways looking radar

I had some similar thought a few years ago, but RW got in the way and then one thing led to another ----- still plan on building it though

If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Captain Canada

I'd just delete the un-used nacelles completely.
