Is there a What If model contest?

Like many of you, I go to contests from time to time. I see the usual categories of armor, sci-fi, ships, etc., as well as hearing about the different themes that contests will have like "The 50's", Vietnam, Battle of Midway, 60's Space Race, etc., etc.

But I have to wonder:  Is there a contest out there held annually that only deals with "What If" categories/themes? Where all the model entries must be what if subjects?

I'm talking about a contest that is completely What If. I've often had the dream of sponsoring/running a model contest. Nothing big or fancy per say. Just something local to start with, but may grow over the years if possible. But I'd want it to be completely What If. A contest to make people think "outside the box" so to speak.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Extremely doubtful I'd have thought.

Not even in the UK can we muster enough models to make up a decent 'WhatIf' class entry at Telford, usually it's only half a dozen or so.

But the contest/show mentality is different in the US, there you have contests with a small amount of 'show' added and here we have shows with contests added onto them, so who knows what may work?

[Later] There are custom car model shows over there of course, I've even entered and judged one of them way back, so maybe extending the scope of one of those might work?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

If they moved Telford about 200 miles South, I could double that...  ;D

Actually its because most Whiff modellers are not competition modellers, the Whif SIG stand is full as is Project Cancelled SIG stand, there are plenty to be found on other Clubs & SIGs too however few go to the effort of formal competition entry.

Moving it South would kill SMW, its in the Midlands for a reason, any further North or South and you would alienate half the IPMS UK membership as many simply couldn't justify the greater travel and accommodation costs.

If you are coming this year, you should have booked last year....    :banghead:

Every major hotel chain has a place in Telford. The Travelodge by the station is popular especially as they have a Beefeater restaurant and you can sometimes get deals online. There are two big hotels next to the International Centre, Holiday Inn and International Hotel (same operators) and some of us stay there. A bit further out are the Park Inn Hotel who have jacked up their prices over the last 10 years, lots of us stay there.
I prefer the low cost of the Telford campus of Wolverhampton Uni, see the IPMS website for details of the discount.

Nonononono, I didn't enter and judge the SAME show, I judged the event the year after I entered it. My co-judge was Ed Roth no less!!  :o He really IS crazy!
