Operation Granby colours and markings

I've after the base, "desert pink" colour used on Blackburn Buccaneers in Operation Granby.   Does anybody know what Tamiya/Vallejo colour I should use for it?

Further, does anybody know if there are decals available for Buccaneers from Granby?

Not sure if it's accurate but I use humbrol 168 with a touch of us compass grey. Looks right to my eyes. As to decaals, think there are some at hannants specifically for 208Sqn and or tornadoes in the gulf.

I Goggled "desert pink" and got this.

Which probably isn't much help.

Xtracrylics XA1032 Gulf War Desert Pink FS10279.

Humbrol 250 Desert Pink is said to be close as well.

Yes The Aviation Workshop did sheets for all Buccs in 72 and 48 (MA72100 & MA48100) sadly TAW is now no more so I do not know where you could source them.

Humbrol 250/FS12079 is good if you want a straight out of the paint-shop finish.  During Granby, the ARTF (alkaline removable temporary finish) and the intensity of ops made it wear very quickly (even before they flew out of the UK).  The already patchy finish was made even more so as I'm led to believe it was touched up with any locally available beige-pink mix.

This is how I went about it after a lot of messing, I used a 2:1 mix of Humbrol 250 to 34 white and it seems okay.

If your looking specifically for a Tamiya shade, XF-15 flesh might work.  When I did the TA-7C Nev recommended Humbrol 61 flesh to me but I thought it was too orange, the Tamiya paint looks better to me but I've got no actual experience with it.

Another, more "sandy" option than the skin/flesh tone can be Tamiya's XF-57 "Buff":



Will probably come close to Humbrol 250 with a touch of grey - I used it on a 1:48 Mi-24 in Soviet markings long ago, it's a very versatile and subtle sand tone.
