For a few days now, I've been wondering about another German airplane from WW2 which might or might not have been looked at by the Japanese as a possible fighting plane. Now, the Japanese were no slouches when it came to investigating losing aircraft when they thought they might've gotten an advantage from is, as witnessed by the adoption of the DC4E with respect to the G5N.

So, what if the He177 was investigated? After all, Heinkel just about lost their shirt on that, so there may have been some desire to recoup losses.

Could Nakajima have turned this design around as a possible maritime reconnaissance weapon system?
