When did they first fly?  I'm looking all over the place and can't find anything.
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

The Mk V first flew 21 October 1940 and reached 20,000 ft high. The Mk VI replaced the Mk V as the Mk V's Hercules Engines did not offer as much power as the Mk VI's Merlin engines. I don't have a date for the Mk VI but I do know that development of the high altitude Wellington was dropped by the end of 1942 due to the Mosquito being in production and able to operate at heights far in excess of normal bomber aircraft.
