With the fear of the imminent Axis invasion, thoughts turned to converting all available civilian types of aircraft into wepons of some kind. The De Havilland factory at Hatfield was given the task of converting the DH.88 Comet into a warplane. The easy option was fit external bomb racks to enable the aircraft to carry a very small bomb load.

 Just what I was thinking, but with a small bomb rack fitted under the fuselage to carry very small bombs like those on the Lysander

Yup some 20 lb Coppers left over from WWI ?

Or perhaps as a beach gas sprayer ? Loads of types were suggested and a couple (inc. the Lizzie) were tested and equipped ready for use. In the end Churchill said no, but who knows what would have happened if the German's had attempted a landing

Somebody paid good coin for that build ! Wow. Guess I should try making a buck too  Was a nice looking bird tho ! Looking forward to where this one is heading as well. Really should get off my duff and see if there's one at my LHS, or even one down in the stash !

It's an awful little kit this - I remember being very disappointed in the mould when Dad bought one, after much badgering, for me as a kid - so good luck to you! I like the idea of an emergency bomber, this will be fun.

Smashing job, and wholly believable too.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)
