Saw this in my monthly R/C model boating mag and thought of some of you guys, although you'll need to be VERY well heeled to get one!  :o

A 1/700 resin kit of the flush decked CVA-58 USS United States, which never got further than having its keel laid before it was cancelled.

The kit costs $220.00 in the US, so goodness knows how much it would be by the time it gets here!

These Blue Ridge guys do all sorts of weird stuff including a 5 pack of 1/700 Vought XF5-U1 Flying Pancakes.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Somewhat irritatingly Blue Ridge  Models own web site lets you see details of al their current kits, EXCEPT the USS United States!  :banghead:

That Douglas 1186 is the monster that OGL build in 1/72 that frequently graces the UK SIG's show stand. How ever that thing came to be built to the spec that finally resulted in the Skywarrior defies all logic!  :o

Yeah, the 1186 may be a monster alright - but it's a truly glorious monster!
Wherever you go, there you are!

I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Size (of the stash) matters.

So how many have you ordered then Geoff?  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
None

I was tempted I'll admit but I don't really like the design of the USS United States that much to justify the expenditure. I would rather buy another HMS Malta kit

I think I spot two regulus missiles on deck, painted red.  One on the port elevator, one nearing the forward port catapult.  They had a trolly for deck handling/launching.

A neat kit, but I am WAY to cheap to shell out that kind of cash for a 1/700 kit.  Thanks for spotting it Kit.

It does look decidedly odd without any island at all, wherever were they going to con the thing from?

Expensive for sure, but it would be neat to see somebody build it, especially with all those whiffy types on deck !

Starboard forward was a small conning tower, similar to the Independence class CVLs.
It wouldn't have worked; they'd need a higher perspective.

I will be buying a lottery ticket, just in case. And even if not those planes, those lovely lovely whiffy planes...
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.
