Hi all,

Here are the pics of my Ki-100 Spotted Dick

and my Mig 15 in progress

I've used the salt technique with a silver undercoat for the Mig 15 and then have sprayed it black.

Haven't removed the salt yet.

Plan to use to heart stickers on the wings and fuselage.

That's fantastic!

Taking notice of the "Spotted Dick" description, poor Ms. Hitler, who is here with me right now, was hoping for some other kind of fuselage, apparently...

  Great painting skills, congratulations...
For the MiG-15 with a round fin: where will the tailplanes go? Low on the fuselage? or no tail-plane into a Me-163-like tailless? both would be original... :)

Quotethe MiG-15 with a round fin
Thinking about it, I wondered: was it an Australian model dream or a Russian industrial project? I have checked my book "MiG 1939-1989" (Editions Lariviere) and got the answer: the MiG-9   used such a shape (see below, low) without swept wing. But I prefer a lot Allan's one (below, up) : more harmony with the swept wing and without very-long back till the fin.
Conclusion: congratulations again... :)

Hi Tophe and Barry,

Thanks for your kind comments.

Actually, I have two tailplanes all ready to cement to the tail fin, but really am tossing up (Tophe, that means I can't quite decide) re. to actually attach them. They're made of some credit cards cemented together.

If I put them on, then perhaps a lowish possy (position) might be the go (might be the right decision).

But I like the look of it just as it is, just like the Komet.

Can't wait to remove the salt and see how it turns out.

I painted it black because my wife saw a Thunderbolt in black and red (you can actually see it behind the Ki-100) at last week's hobby club meeting and liked the color combo.

I think I'm supposed to paint red somewhere, but not really sure where.

Any suggestions, fellows??

I think you're pretty well going to need tailplanes with that wing location, I don't think she'd be at all stable otherwise.  For color, how about the inverse of some of the Soviet aerobatic teams which were red with black trim?  Alternatively, there was one Su-15 prototype flown at the 1967 Tushino airshow that was black with red trim, that might give you an idea to try.

She's looking good Al. Love the two SEAC Thunderbolt's in the background shots

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Great job on the Ki-100, she looks superb

Love the line up of jugs behind her too

Salt technique? How does that work?

Allan

Thanks blokes,

The salt technique involves first spraying the model with silver and then wetting it here and there with water and then attaching salt crystals where you want to represent worn-away paint. Let the salt dry in place.

Then you spray the model wifh the final coat and wait till it drys. Then knock off the salt leaving the bare metal peeping coyly through. Soaking the model overnight is a good way to remove the salt.

Has anyone here ever made a Ta 152? I have an old model of that one unmade and so may attach the Ta-152 nose to the Mig and paint it red. Then maybe red wingtips and also maybe cut a thin strip of red decal into a lightning flash for the sides.

Then the propellor from the Kyushu Shinden, with six blades, followed by FW or Messer undercarriage with a tailwheel. I'll keep the air brakes.

The 100 looks great as before, and the little 15 looks quite promising ! I think it need tail planes as well, tho. And what's the idea behind the hearts ?

Hi Capt'n,

I was mooching around in the $2 store the other day in the mall after having had a snack (very vanilla latte with a chocolate muffin) when I noticed that they sell a lot of colorful stickers for putting on excercise books and the like.

One of the packets was full of little red heart stickers of various sizes so I decided to buy a packet.

I cut one out with scissors and gave it a spray with my fave matt spray, Testor's dull cote, just to see how much I could reduce its shininess and it worked quite well.

After the painting and decalling are done, I'll put the heart stickers on the wings and fuselage and maybe

call it Prince Charming's MIG 15.
