What if the engines were mounted on the wings? Following close to the design of the meteor

Perhaps something along these lines would fit the bill,

Andrew

That's more like it  ;D only with proper British engines in it  maybe even keep the tail dragger configuration? This might become the next build on my list at this rate
Don't let ageing get you down, it's too hard to get back up

RAFF-35

Or following the original brief, merge these two together....

Considering Me 262 was originally a tail dragger, that actually makes a lot of sense.

I don't know if it helps but here is the original picture to explain the idea of my take of the SpitJet ...

Work on this project has started, and since the topic generated more discussions and content than expected I will open a new WiP thread for my build.

Anyway, after initial surgery (and previous uncertainty concerning the jet pipe/tail wheel solution) I feel inclined to adopt José's idea of a bifurcated exhaust pipe at the wings' trailing edge. While the engine and the Yak-23 front end create a kind of kangaroo belly, the depth of the wing eats a lot of the Yak-23 exhaust fairing away - with an underbelly exhaust, I'd probably have to either create a semi-recessed solution (might look quite elegant, but in effective - just think about the need for heat shields!) or deepen the belly tunnel for a free-standing exhaust, rather Yak-15-ish and very ugly. The bifurcated option keeps the belly clean, and blending the wide and round front end with the narrow, oval Spitfire fuselage and the wing roots will take massive body work, so I can use this opportunity to integrate two long fairings for the twin jet nozzles. The front end will be more massive, and the pipes smaller - but I think this is the winning layout here, because it also omits the grilled tail wheel issue.

WiP thread soon to be opened.  ;)

Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.
