If you park a front-wheel drive car in a snowdrift, it's better to do it in reverse. This way, your driving wheels are where there is (hopefully!) better traction, if you drive too deep into the drift, or if the far end sinks into the snow, or something.


It wasn't a joke.

I live on a very steep hill that's almost never ploughed when it snows. No, it's NEVER been ploughed in the 32 yrs I've lived here.

Most of my cars in that time have been front wheel drive and it's often been impossible to get up the hill going forward, in any gear, whereas in reverse I've rarely failed to make it. The sole exception IIRC being a 2.3 litre Ford Galaxy that had such a useless transmission that reverse was a higher ratio than the forward first gear! Mind you, I think the transmission was one of the umpteen VW bits on that useless vehicle.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model
