I've got most of those in the stash, can't seem to get around to building any though...

That's very nice. Particularly impressed with the "gold foil" effect. What did you use ? (go on tell me "gold foil"  )

Very nice. The Bell X-1 family flew for NACA not NASA though.

The 'gold foil' is a layer of 'Bare Metal' foil over the moulded foil effect then sprayed over with some yellow Tamiya clear, witha touch of orange. From what I can tell this is a good match for the real thing which used a layer of orangy coloured, heat resistant  plastic, called Capton, over aluminum foil. I think... I did the same thing with the foil on the Lunar Lander, only using either yellow or orange clear over silver paint.
