Sukhoi changes sides, and the USAAC doesn't

Some time in the 1950s certain members of Sukhoi's design bureau are convinced to defect to the West. They carry their designs and philosophies with them.
But the big US aircraft manufacturers aren't interested in hiring them, due to creative differences. Therefore they end up having to form their own aircraft company, keeping the Sukhoi name to thumb their noses at their former masters.
While their aircraft designs aren't of interest to the other armed forces, the USAAC, still tasked with coastal defense after the strategic defense role was given to the new USAF, is interested in the new company's designs, and begins ordering them. They are tasked with near-coastal patrol, working with the USCG, and defense of the Panama Canal Zone and approaches, plus air support of Army units on the ground.
Their most recent aircraft is a two-seat attack aircraft, with limited air-to-air combat for self-defense, the A-34. It can carry a wide range of air-to-surface weapons, plus Sidewinder and AMRAAM for self-defense.
