The Lancaster on display yielded some interesting info and it is to do with the canopy framework, particularly the dark earth used on it. As you can see, the canopy covers two sections of camo, the dark earth and the dark green. There is some dark green under the canopy at the back, but the entire canopy framework is in dark earth regardless of the colour of the fus that it is plonked down on. Maybe the same holds wilth the Halifax and other RAF aircraft. Must remember this when painting my Halibag.
Also some shots of Richtofen-related things for you and another of the Lanc fus showing that the delinatlion of the two upper colors and the black under color is a sharp line and a feathered edge on another part of the fus. The wheel hubs are black and as you can see the jet intake for the 262 shows a matt silver onion-shaped thing inside. Note that the paint on the lip of the intake has worn away, showing the natural metal underneath. Also, the red code letters cover the portholes in places. And just what was the purpose of the portholes anyway?

Ah, G for George.

Are they still showing the Peter Jackson WW1 "dawn patrol" movie?

Hi Zenrat,
It wasn't on when I visited the place on Anzac Day and I skulked around the aircraft hall for the best part of 40 minutes taking everything in.

Thanks Al.

I thoroughly enjoyed it when I saw it there.  Made me hope that one day Peter Jackson would put his weight behind a decent Biggles movie.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Peter Jackson movie when I saw it about 4-5 years ago.   It's an excellent representation of WWI in the air late in the war.   Well worth seeing.

Over the Front.  It's about flyers.
Made specifically for The War Memorial.
Here's a news report from 2008.

If you google it you will find some copies poorly filmed on smart phones but i'm not willing to link to them.
