Very clever. 

I recall there was a full sized ship that used the Magnus effect to propel itself like that way back in Victorian times. I suspect a lot easier to do that with a ship only in 2 dimensions than with an aircraft working in 3!

What immediately struck me were the aircraft control issues. Realistically, the only control you can exert over the 'wings' is to vary their speed, but with a large spinning mass in a full-size aircraft, inertia means that they won't change speeds quickly, and there's also the gyroscopic effects to consider.

This four-rotor design seems to me to have more practical potential for a variety of reasons:
