Lusitania in 1/600

Hi all,
Since I read about it in National Geographic as a child, I've been fascinated with the story of the Lusitania and its sinking by a U-boat. I wanted a model but they're hard to get and pricey, so I figured I'd do a "close enough" job with the Airfix Mauretania. It wasn't common in NZ when I wanted it so Weaver kindly bought one on my behalf with an Airfix sale. I did the decks but ran out of white paint so, while I got more and got distracted with other stuff, it was shelved.

Until yesterday.

Nah, I honestly don't know enough about ships to do anything other than OOB! Apparently Lusitania was shorter...or longer?...but I'll just be building it as it is, and painting it as it's believed to have looked when it sunk.

No pics but more of the superstructure is in place, the final bit is due and then the task of painting and fitting all the lifeboats, masts and other fittings is due. And yes, I would like to rig it!

You do wonder why ? Or at least I do 

Mind you half my family worked in ship yards so I've heard a few stories. I don't think the post of Quality Control Manager had been invented at the time

See, I'm definitely not up to doing that! I imagine just razoring the hull and putting it right back together would remove enough plastic!

Rigging it sounds good !

There's not too much to do, but it'll help complete the look nicely.

There are 1/600 photo-etch rigging sets for merchant ships, if you want to go into that much detail.

And unless you're building this for a museum where accuracy is paramount, 3 feet is nothing to worry about. 

Nice to see someone building a non-warship.
