System Defense Boat

My second scratchbuild - a System Defence Boat.  I read in a Traveller rule book about a sort of destroyer-sized guard vessel to provide security for a solar system - "local boys protecting their home worlds" kind of thing.  The idea was to provide about three of these for the cost of a single star-ship.

Again, it started with a bottle - shampoo bottle, this time.  I'd found the handle of a broken plastic shovel, of the type kids take to the beach.  Add some found objects, a few things from the spares/scraps bin, some things filched from here and there, and it all came together.

No progress pics, sorry - this build dates from the late '80s. 




The engines are buttoneer-stem vases - you know, those green tubes with the pieced rubber cap, that florists use to keep corsages & button-hole flowers fresh -  inside two hair curler things I swiped from my long-suffering wife.



The directional nozzles are from a crashed Harrier.  The shuttle is something I found - I have no idea what it was originally.



The dime is for size comparison.  The main turret is from a Missouri, I believe.  The second turret is scratchbuilt - it's supposed to be a gatling-type, as is the chin turret.  The neck is from a child's sea-side plastic shovel, topped with a spoon ... and that's just about all of it.




I hadn't reckoned on the camera flash reflecting off the background ... but it kinda works.

With all due respect to Rickshaw and Dogfighter Z, I couldn't figure out how to resize the images, so Until I have more time to spend on that, I'm going to just post links -'cos I know they work.
