I'm trying to suss out the paints to use to do my Black Widow in USN colours. I was going to use Humbrol 134, 144, and 34 white.

What replaces Humbrol 134 that can be brush painted ?
CANADA KICKS arse !!!!

Look for FS 35042. Humbrol has, unfortunately, killed any similar option in their range - 181 (glossy) was the authentic tone. 77 is currently the best alternative in Humbrol's range, but it's relatively light and greenish. But the tone is available from many other manufacturers, including Tamiya, Modelmaster and certainly others.

As an additional question(s) (sorry CC for the slight hijacking)
I've a tin of Humbrol 134 which I used on the spinner of a Sea Fury for something different as once I'd found it I liked the colour

My question is - what's the intended "original" use of the shade/colour then?

I'm presuming from CC's original post USN? Is that the post-war dark-blue (and therefore would it be on US supplied RN aircraft eg Skyraiders) or going from CCs colour call off is it the three-colour USN war-time camouflage? (I notice on my old instructions for the Airfix Kingfisher it gives the dark blue as Humbrol 104?)

It's just that I really like the colour (awwwww!) and wondered about it as an alternative to PRU Blue, and also as the correct shade for aircraft like RN Skyraiders and other 'dark blue' RN airframes

So if anyone more knowledgeable could inform and educate I'd appreciate it  ;D (again sorry for the hijack!  <_<)

According to the App I use (Hobby Color Converter) it's "official" name is Sea Blue Matt.
It gives as a match Vallejo 70898 Dark Sea Blue 48 Matt (Model Color) and 71295 USN Sea Blue Matt (Model Air).
Both are acrylic.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

AFAIK Humbrol 134 is a remnant from their long-gone Authentics range - and it was supposed to the be Semi Gloss Sea Blue ANA 606. 181 once was HU 24 Glossy Sea Blue ANA 623, and both were supposed to be FS 35042, just in different finishes. And, yes, that' not only the dark WWII USN tone, but also the same tone for the post-war all-blue livery.

THANK-YOU Dizzyfugu ;D  a very informative answer, so the Hellcats etc in the FAA Pacific Fleet should really be in that rather than Humbrol 15? (yes sorry I generally only use Humbrol paints)

Humbrol 15 is, AFAIK, no authentic tone, just a generic, glossy dark blue (which is lighter than FS 35042, and Humbrol 104 lacks green) that better suits the Blue Angels than a USN aircraft.

I found a load of my old Humbrol Authentic's a few months ago and they are still mainly usable. Shows how long I've had them but the majority were the old military colours, uniforms and armour, with some aircraft colour sets, mainly for airforce's and periods I no longer model. I think they must be 30, maybe 40 years old ? :o
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I know what you mean - my first modelling era (B.A - Before Adulthood!  ;D) was when I was in my early teens (1975-1980ish) and when my models went up into my parent's loft so did the tins of paint. Apart from the tins being a little rusty around the edges they survived to start me off in my present modelling era (2005 and counting!  ;))
