Unfortunately only 10 of the Aussie Hornets received a centre-barrel replacement, extending their fatigue life.  I assume those are amongst the examples heading to Canada.

The rest of the fleet are very near their service life of 6,000 hours.  They'd be a maintenance liability for NZ.

Also I think the Canadians are clearing the RAAF shelves of spares, so the Kiwis would be cannibalising the fleet for parts.

After the recent developments (Boeing loses court battle at the USA ITC), the Canadian purchase might not go ahead.

OK, that puts a different complexion on it... ah well, nice to dream, and there's always 1/72 plastic...

So is this the Dept of State again, still able and willing to scotch a military equipment sell-on, years after the initial buy type of thing?
The sort of thing that stopped the initial sale of our Squawks to the Singaporeans?

The original builders of military equipment create an "end user agreement" which allows them to veto any resale of said equipment by the purchuser.  In the "end user agreement" there can also be various clauses about where and when the equip can be used and if necessary, against whom.   Some nations ignore the "end user agreement" and become pariah states.  Some get stung with the agreement, like Oz did in Vietnam with the purchase of the L35a1 Carl Gustav Rcl.  The Swedes didn't like the idea of their weapon being used there and prevented the sale of ammunition to downunder.  The result was that the Australian Army, not manufacturing the ammunition themselves, ended up with pieces of drain pipe.  We have learnt from that lesson and now make sure to manufacture our own ammunition for everything we own.  Major items like aircraft, ships, etc. are somewhat problematic, particularly from the Americans who can be rather picky about who they allow their equipment to be sold onto.   :banghead:

Ah, that's how it works... I'd heard of 'End User Agreements', but hadn't realized any subsequent on-selling was a part of the Ts & Cs.

But then it's logical, as otherwise you'd get a country 'buying on behalf'.

That happens still, in spite of EUAs.

Pre-Gulf War one of my employers customer's in the UK bought a test system and I installed it for 'pre-system commissioning tests' at their plant here. It seemed it was part of a deal for a complete test lab for a Swiss company and the whole thing was shipped there later on. The guys in Switzerland called and asked me to go over there to set it up for a rather special test, and while I was there I found out its eventual destination was Iraq!!!  :banghead:

The Swiss guys obviously knew where it was going, but the UK company didn't, and between us we blew the whistle on the Swiss guys. The system ended up back in the UK after some months, and I RE-installed it, right in the middle of the Gulf War.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yeah, there's always someone willing to see dollars over patriotism, or not arming the trolls.

There's also the 'unlicenced copy' route, i.e.

"No, we DEFINITELY didn't sell them that stuff, but by some miracle of industrial espionage, they've managed to copy it precisely, and in a remarkably short time too. We are, of course, very upset by this, and have launched a regrettably slow and incompetent legal action as a result.

Also, in response to your other question, where our engineers take their holidays is none of your business. Thank you for your enquiry."
