The usually unmentioned element of their concept was that they were designed to escort nuclear bombers beyond the range of fighters at friendly bases & improve their chances of reaching their targets "when the big one came", the chance of survival of any of the aircrew was ... "minimal", at best.

Hey let's mount a plane of a ship to protect the fleet...what about landing..ummm dunno..water?
Yup there's drawbacks to parasite figthers of all kinds.
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .
