The turret looks a lot like the Japanese Type 90 MBT, or a German Leopard 2A4. However, the rear of the hull with the grates for the engine cooling doesn't match with the Type 90, it's closer to the Leoprad 2A4.  :o

Leopard 2A4 (possibly with T14 prototype mod's but not likely) & a bit of artistic licence.

Edit: A point of note is the 7.62 mm MG3A1 machine-gun illustrated on the cupola on top of the turret.

I have to agree with the guys, it's a Leo 2A4

Nope, it's a Leopard II,  early model up to an a4 IIRC.  It features the flat faced turret and mantlet.

Thanks guys! I love watching you work the problem! :)

So much easier to just post a couple of pics of mostly obscured tanks and have the experts just tell me the answer than spending hours googling "tanks with flat turrets" and making uneducated guesses.

I love that helicopter attack sequence and was musing about how to replicate it as part of my 1/144 Area 88 project suite... when suddenly and unexpectedly a 1/144 Leopard 2A4 from the Takara Tank Museum series jumped off eBay and landed in my purchases list.  I'm not sure how that all happened, but I think it was a combination of seeing all those pics, and checking eBay "just to see" late at night and then stumbling across what seemed like a better-than-usual deal for the tank ($5 instead of $15-20... I'll take the "missing box" one thank you very much).  Technically it's not a "kit" as it's pre-assembled, but for a 1/144 tank, let's just assume I was able to manage to glue all four of those pieces together and move on to the (re)painting anyway. ;)

Now to find a 1/144 scale UH-1C Huey and a AH-1Q Cobra to go with it...
Thanks!

They make UH-1 Hueys and AH-1S Cobras which is the closest you'll get to a "Q" model
