It seems the Tornado ancestors are dated 1945 by Panavia Aviazone. ;)
Retired in 1946. :-\

Curiously reminiscent of a Pilatus PC-21....

I presume it's got a BIG fin?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

You are right, I did not realize the PC-21 had such small wings:
see http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/scratch-building-aircraft-design-3d-cad-174/4545890-pilatus-pc-21-3-view.html#&gid=1&pid=1
And seen from above, the fin with extension looks like a big fin, yes.

I presume the idea is to make it handle more like a jet so it can take on an even bigger share of the training sylabus.
