Yeah, but we had T-33s as well, and nothing in the ground attack dept ! So, if we were building T-33s anyway, why not a few F-80s !

sure, Ollie...I think we did right at the end of their careers, as trainers for the 104.

But you can't beat a straight winged bird for the ground attack role !

I could be mistaken, but those look like real colors, circa sometime during the Korean War. Sometime during the first year, they (the Air Force) discovered that all of their straight-winged fighters did very poorly against the MiG-15. They rushed to re-equip most of the CAP and escort squadrons with F-86s, and switched the F-80 and F-84 to the ground attack role, which they were apparently very good for. We have an example of each type at the Museum, an F-84G painted as Dolph Overton's ship, and an F-80C, though this is painted as a USMC TV-1. It looks an awful lot like Ollie's, less the bright colors.

It's not a WI, it's a real plane from some squadron in Korea, circa 1952.
