Yea,
I know, it's not exactly modern, and has no cannons, but it is still an interesting ship. I bought this model back in 1978, and finished it last month! It's the old 'Life Like' model scaled at 1/160. Finished on a diorama, with crew and passengers, and a bit of smoke.
It sold for A$200, yea, loose change to you Canadians!

Already been done; go look up USS Wolverine and Sable.  ^_^
Also USS Delta Queen and Delta King. Yes, that Delta Queen.  :ar:

Great job on the R.E.L., Glenn! Love seeing something other than another battleship or carrier.  B)

Fantastic.

Now, some more photos (close-ups, in fact) would appear to be appropriate!

Yeah, let's see if David Wiclox is aboard, with a reefer in his hand !

Actually, I did add an 'in joke' with the raft in the foreground, with Huck, Tom and Big Jim, and the author on one of the decks, behind the railings.
With the USS Wolverine, I am at the present, building a model of it. There are only a few photos of the carrier around, but I sent for plans of the S.S Seeandbee, to the National Aerospace Museum, and they sent me 'line drawings'. This is the hull, deck to keel, and showing the farings for the side paddles.
The only problem was, my model is 1/144sc, while the plans are 1/50. 1/50th would have been easier, as getting the 1/144 WW2 aircraft is a bitch. All I have so far is a F6F and a TBF.
JoeP, are there any other shots of Wolverine other than those in the US Navy pages?

One of Clive Cusslers books has Dirk Pitt driving a paddlesteamer after a bunch of terrorists, firing a muzzle loading cannon at 'em with the help of some Good old boys on a re-enactment weekend...
Forget which book it was! Nice model, BTW.

I believe it was Cyclops and that'd make for quite a diorama some time.

Lyn,

This museum has a big model of Wolverine:

Buffalo and Erie County Naval Museum
Perhaps they have plans and/or photos.

Navsource is usually a good source for USN photos:

Wolverine on Navsource
Sable on Navsource

I'd really like to see the model in progress, and especially finished. They certainly were a unique pair of ships.

JoeP,
Thanks for the info and photo links.
Every bit helps.
