Messerschmitt Me 109 H0-v.

The H series of the Messerschmitt 109 was a high altitude fighter developed from the Me 109 F.  The most obvious difference being longer span wings and stabilisers.

The H0 was powered by the DB 601E engine while the later H1 was fitted with the DB 605A.  Both engines were equipped with GM-1 boost (nitrous oxide injection) for improved performance at altitude.

Issues with stabiliser flutter under certain conditions led to the vee tailed H0-v - thinking being that the stronger construction required for this type of tail would add rigidity.  A number of development aircraft were built and saw service with front line squadrons.  The outcome however was not favourable.  While flutter was banished, handling suffered at altitude leading to a reduction in operational ceiling.  Given the raison d'être of the H series was to be a high altitude fighter this was not acceptable and while the in service aircraft remained with squadrons vee tail development was taken no further.

The aircraft pictured is one of the operational development aircraft.  Me 109 H0-v "Double Chevron", JG 53 flown by Lt. Hans Welich, Braunau airfield, May 1945.

The Model.
AZ Messerschmitt Me 109G-0 with wings from AZ Messerschmitt Me 109H-0 (or is it an H-0 with the tail from the G-0?).
Paint scheme (almost - some colours substituted) and transfers from the H-0 kit.

Have you used the AZ model of 109G with V-tail? (https://www.scalemates.com/kits/az-model-az7546-messerschmitt-bf-109g-0-r6-v-tail--1048537# )

Sorry, I have missed one sentence scrolling through pictures, the answer was in the text all right. :-\
This nice model makes me dream of a W-tail zwilling Bf-109Z like the Fouga Gémeaux. Maybe I could try to draw it. ;D

Come out very nicely Fred. I've a couple of AZ's G-0 "Whiff boxings" and one of them is sitting on the "next up" box as we speak. Hoping to get it done for Telford
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
