I started  building this when I  was waiting  for paint  to dry on my Meteor  and A.S. 511's. Very old and crude  kit, but fun to build.  It has needed a lot of sanding and  shaping,  bu3 there's only so much that can be done  with it. This is how  far I  have  got with  it.  It has a replacement  ejector seat, which is probably  completely wrong,  but i3 don't  care,  it fits so that will do for me. The kit is by Ursus, which I have been reliably informed is the old Airfix  kit.

A lovely looking aeroplane, the SR53, no matter which kit it started from.

That's looking promising already Chris.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Thankyou,  it's behaving  itself  so far, I think that it being quite a  simple  kit parts wise helps. Only  a little  bit of putty  where the wings go in to the fuselage  thats it

As I said in the Archer thread, I did the 1/48 resin kit.  It looks great in camo.

This looks  brilliant  Devilfish, I  never thought about putting drop tanks on mine, but after seeing yours  I  might  just  dig some out for it.
Cheers

The way that rocket motor gets through fuel, it'd NEED them!  :o

Would they be for the rocket engine or the turbojet ?

I don't think it'd matter, the dh Spectre rocket motor used kerosene as one of its fuels anyway, and the other was hydrogen peroxide, which just needs to be kept away from light or a catalyst to stop it degrading.

A rocket running on paraffin and hair bleach  ( ? possibly P stuff and B stuff ? ) sounds much more of an  improvised British scheme than some of the other rocket fuels used elsewhere.  Fuming red nitric acid......nitrogen tetroxide......hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene.....unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine ..............all of these sound much more toxic  and laboratory-based  whereas the bleach and paraffin seem more "kitchen table" science.

It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

I fitted the drop tanks for the jet engine. The SR.53 spent most of its flight profile using that.  The Spectre was only there to accelerate the aircraft and gain height when intercepting bombers.

One does have to wonder how much of it "disappeared" ? Some to keep the barracks warm and the other so the WAAF's could look their best for the NAAFI dance
