Freightdog tandem Hunter in Modelstories this month

Hi everyone,

Been a bit quiet of late but all is fine. Just got a message from JC Carbonel that my All Weather Tandem Hunter set features in the latest Modelstories update. Interestingly he has used the set on an old Frog Hunter FGA.9 rather than the Revell kit, and with a suitable amount of fettling has done a very nice job!

Just a quick mention that I have a couple of new sets that I had intended to release at Hornchurch, including the FAA tandem Hunter and Buccaneer WE177 sets, I will post separately when these are listed on my website.

That works pretty well, as I suppose it should do so long as the Hunter fuselage is accurate enough. 

I wonder how it would go on a Matchbox fuselage, which is what the original Maintrack tandem two seater conversion was intended for.

I have a  plastyk hunter  f6 which, without  looking into it will be a  frog repop won't it. I would like to attempt to make  an alternative hunter  from it, so how  difficult are  these conversion sets to work with.

If it's a Freightdog set it'll be perfect, have no fear!

They're the Rolls Royce of resin conversions and if Colin says they'll fit, they surely will. 

If the Plastyk Hunter came from the original FROG FGA9 you stand a good chance of making it work I reckon.

Nice one, the kit is supposed to be  an F6 and has sidewinders in and fuel  tanks.  I need  to scrub up on my hunter  knowledge  really, as  I  have a  fondness for them.

IIRC the Plastyk Hunter looks vaguely Hunter shaped but is a real mish-mash best left in the box - the back end is so anaemic it makes the Matchbox one look accurate.  The Revell kit is the best Hunter in 72nd, although the wheels are a tad small, and that definitely comes with 'winders.

I wonder if the  airfix  one  would  work  then? I have  one of those  also. I can't  justify the  price tag of the Revell  kit, especially  to chop it up

I'd recommend shelling out for the Revell.  The Airfix Hunter FGA9 is a 40 year old retooled/reworking of a 60 year old kit (IIRC the F6 it's based on came out in 1960!) and crude by today's standards although it looks okay with some work (I have fond memories of building several Airfix Hunters).  Revell's kit cannot be recommended highly enough and well worth every penny of the price tag.

I don't have the Freightdog conversion but if it's anything like the Maintrack one - or indeed the PJ two seater - it'll be a simple cut down a panel line and the pouring lug will assist in aligning the parts.

Thanks for all the comments, all I can say is that my set is designed to fit the Revell kit(s), it looks like JC had to do some vigorous sanding to get the forward fuselage to join, as the Frog cross section if wider. I've not got around to trying it with the Airfix or Matchbox kits, but if you did you would need to either re-scribe the kit fuselage or remove the engraved detail on the resin parts. Better to get a Revell kit 2nd hand if you can, or strip down and rebuild an old one!

I quite enjoyed that build thread.  I've always planned to use the area-ruled drop tanks from a F11F-1 on any build using P.1083 wings (got several of both the old and new wing sets and a fair number of the Hasegawa Tiger kits).
