Longer wings are indeed a sensible option, but I do rather like the concept of a Lysander ornithopter.

OK...   check this out.... brought out of retirement? Let's say the new IAF in their fury to snap up any aircraft they can got their hands on these but after a couple unfortunate incidents the Lysander lost its wings and an S-199 lost it's fuselage so they stitched them together making a new low-winged(or even stay with the high wings perhaps!) Lysander with Me-109 wings.    Then maybe I can paint it up in Suez invasion colors or something. Could be an observation aircraft?

That sounds like fun! ;D

I'd go with the high wing, that'd keep the "observation" role more functional & would look hilarious but believable. ;)

Very good, then!  High wing it is. You know, I hadn't really planned on actually building this thing but I'm starting to think I just might.  ;D

Sweet!!!   How was it blending the wings into the fuselage?  I've never attempted such a thing and last night as I was falling asleep I kind of convinced myself to stick with the high wing because of my inexperience. Going to have to learn some day, though!

I have very few pictures and none of them are WIPS but the Academy P39 wing has a one piece lower wing and I think I cut an equivalently sized chunk out of the bottom of the Lysander fuselage and then filled the gaps with putty.
Here's the underside...

...and here's some Academy P39 sprues.

Looks like I added a curved part to fair in behind that ventral air outlet.
I don't remember it being particularly onerous.
My favourite detail on this is the sides of the undercarriage legs opening out into dive brakes.  This came to me when I was scratch building them.  Has it been done IRL?  It seems like an obvious thing to do.
The spinning prop was my first attempt at making one and will be replaced with a clear disc one day.

That one piece wing with center fuselage sections helps tremendously I imagine. That's something to always be mindful of for someone like me....  I think when I try it I'll try to find one just like that instead of seperate pieces.   Thanks!!!!

Of course Kit, there is a point of view that (prepare yourself for this) you don't have to make every build a whiff...
  :o

That's just crazy talk.

A Lysander with U-2 wings could be something like an AN-2 balloon interceptor...
